In 2004, there was not a BFC-type body of believers in the Gettysburg area — a connectional church committed to solid theological teaching from a reformed perspective, a fellowship where God is recognized as sovereign in salvation and all of life, a church that is evangelistic and baptistic, that practices rule by elder, with a plurality of elders. The closest Bible Fellowship churches were in York and Harrisburg.
The Bible Fellowship Church has a strong tradition in asking, “What does the Bible say?” We believe that biblical teaching is of utmost importance in shaping our lives and our living. The BFC has a biblical emphasis on God’s work in the salvation of His people. We believe this teaching is needed in society more today than ever before.
Several families began meeting together Sunday afternoons for prayer, Bible study, and a meal. By June 4, 2005, regular Sunday morning gatherings took place in a home on York Road. The meetings soon moved to the Girl Scout building nearby. In September 2005, David Way began serving as pastor until his retirement two years later. By 2008, it was clear that a larger location was needed because families with children brought average attendance over 30.
The present church building became available and was purchased in October 2008. On January 4, 2009, Aaron Susek became pastor. He and his family were vital members of the church until God called him to serve in a church nearer to their extended family. After an extensive search, John Hanner was appointed in March 2017 to be the current pastor of BFCAC.
